Quenching: Cool very fast (500°C/s) to get martensite for maximum hardness
Annealing: Cool slowly through transformation region to get soft, machinable pearlite
Austempering: Quench to bainite region and hold → uniform bainite with good strength + toughness
Spheroidizing: Heat to just below A₁ (~700°C) and hold for hours → spheroidal carbides in ferrite matrix (very soft and ductile, excellent for cold working)
